Upholstery Stain Removal

The Holidays Can Wreak Havoc On Your Upholstery

With family and friends in & out of your house, beginning a couple weeks before Christmas and lasting throughout the New Year, your couches, chairs, and upholstery sure do take a beating. I think it’s safe to say we all have that one relative who enjoys the eggnog a tad too much and ends up destroying your brand new couches in the process. We love our family, but we also love when all of the holiday rush and stress come to an end and everyone goes back home. Make a resolution to yourself and let Ecodry NY help you with your Upholstery Stain Removal needs and get ALL your upholstery back to looking and smelling as good as new!

We often get asked (typically after that one relative causes irreversible damage) which types of upholstery hold up the best against stains and overall damage. Here’s some insight from our perspective and hopefully one that will save some headaches down the road.

Cotton and Cotton Blend Upholstery • Based on how it’s wove, cotton can be a very lasting and durable choice. Here’s some things to consider, even though it is very resistant to wear, it typically does not do well with stains. Like anything the higher quality materials and cotton blended upholstery take this into account and assist in making a typically soft fabric somewhat more hardy.

Microfiber • Microfiber is a synthetic (man made) material that has been in high demand for the last few years. It is soft, comfortable and is often compared to suede. For the most part Microfiber upholstery does very well against stains and it also accepts stain resistant products well, to help further battle damage to your new couch. Families with little ones who are prone to mishaps often choose microfiber material and have mentioned time and time again how happy they are with their choice.

Various Common Synthetics • Acrylic and polyester upholstery are also a viable choice because they are tough and very easy to clean as well. Additionally, they’re resistant to static. Olefin is a relatively new synthetic material that is very resistant to staining and wear. It’s downfall is that it is very heat-sensitive.

Wool • Wool is and upholstery that’s in demand because of it’s elegance, comfort and resiliency. The problem with wool is that it isn’t really easy to care for yourself. While some dyes in wool allow for spot cleaning, the only way to ensure little damage to woolen upholstery in cleaning is to have it dry cleaned. Exactly what Ecodry NY specializes in! Another thing to consider about wool upholstery is its ability to fade in direct sunlight, it will not be the best option in front of that beautiful wall of windows.

If you have any questions about caring for your upholstery, please feel free to ask any of the Ecodry NY technicians, we’d be glad to help in any way we can.

We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and wish you all nothing but the best in 2016!
